Schism

schism ˈs(k)izəm/ noun 1.   a split or division between strongly opposed sections or parties, caused by differences in opinion or belief

A great schism separated “the cliffs”, as I call them. An irreversible split forced apart this once unified body and created subsequent fractures over time. With each fracture, the cliffs tear further apart, creating a gap that increasingly isolates them from one another, but that also defines a clearer path between the jagged divisions.

To me, the cliffs are a representation of my experience losing a friend to suicide and the ripple effect his death created within the group of friends I called home. The space between the divide is a universal place of searching within great loss.

Schism is my BFA Thesis work
